The Carbon Disclosure Project awarded Siemens for the first time as the best company globally within the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) and within the newly created Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI).
Siemens achieved within the CDP ranking 98 of 100 points possible. The CDP placed Siemens for the forth time as sector leader in the sector "Industrial Conglomerates" (industrial large combines). Decisive for the excellent placing was their sound and transparent reporting about greenhouse gas emissions, climate protection strategy and measures. Siemens share the belief that climate change poses one of the most significant challenges of the 21st century (besides other issues like the need to ensure economic growth, alleviate poverty and provide access to adequate supplies of energy and water) and that the issue demands the attention of governments, the society as well as the industry.
In this context climate change could on the one hand - due to the change of the surrounding conditions - have negative impact on the economies of many countries. So it might be a risk factor not only for individuals, but also for our global business environment. On the other hand a couple of activities for climate change mitigation promote business opportunities especially for technology suppliers like Siemens which offer energy efficient technologies and therewith can help to reduce carbon emissions. The Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) CDP is an initiative consisting of more than 500 institutional investors representing more than US$64 trillion of funds under management. Every year CDP sends out a questionnaire to more than 3,700 of the world’s largest corporations requesting detailed data on greenhouse gas emissions, the potential risks and opportunities related to climate change and strategies for managing those risks and opportunities.
The Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) demonstrates the range and depth of carbon disclosure. The best 50 companies across a range of industry sectors (only the Telecommunications sector is not represented) out of the CDP 2010 comprise the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).
